Long time no blog

Well, after what seems a very long time I’m back. Life has been busy and getting in the way, and also, I must confess I lost my mojo for a while.

I’ve promised myself 2025 I shall do better. Truth be told, I do like the creativity of writing.

So what’s gone on. Well, having purchased a ‘doer upper’ in 2022 I’ve been very busy doing just that. The bungalow itself I’ve recently discovered was built in 1975 – and quite a lot hadn’t changed in the ensuing 50 years.

Dated decor a specialty

One thing is for sure, the decor certainly looked dated, and had a unique sense of taste to it.

Amongst the various design crimes was bold punchy colours throughout. Never have I known coving be painted so many bold and punchy colours, including pink, purple and forest green. But the crimes against colour don’t stop there. Clearly, there was a plentiful supply of the gloss pink paint, as the double doors between the living room and dining room had also been treated to a coat.

A museum piece?

Said slightly in jest originally, there is some truth in the statement. The bathroom was definitely an ‘original’ that had seen better days. And yes, hiding behind the fire in that picture is the original back boiler from 1975. You can imagine how well that worked i’m sure. Fortunately I was able to get that replaced over the summer with a nice new combi boiler which has been relocated to the loft.

Yes, I knew what I was getting myself in for, I have eyes after all. However, I probably should have looked closer. Many crimes were exposed as I went deeper and deeper into the refresh. Probably the ‘piece de resistance’ was the use of brown parcel tape to cover electrical joint, ouch!

The bungalow is now all but done fortunately. Just a few minor snagging jobs remain adding details and finessing little bits as I go.

So, back to what I enjoy.

Those that know me, will know that I also volunteer as a guard, crossing keeper and trainee engineer at The Mid Norfolk Railway. It’s the off season at the moment so not too much to say on that front at the moment. However, I do often get asked the same question “What do you do as a guard” so I shall put keyboard to webpage and do a day in the life of a guard for a future update.
